Rosacea and perioral dermatitis
Controlling persistent facial redness, visible vessels and rashes around the mouth.
Rosacea is a chronic condition with persistent redness in the centre of the face, visible small vessels and sometimes acne-like spots. It is often mistaken for simply "sensitive skin". Perioral dermatitis is a rash of small red bumps around the mouth, sometimes around the nose and eyes, which often appears after steroid creams or heavy cosmetics.
What makes rosacea worse
- Sun and heat
- Hot drinks, spicy food and alcohol
- Stress and physical exertion
- Irritating cosmetics and scrubs
Treatment
- Topical and, if needed, oral treatment
- Vascular laser for visible vessels and persistent redness
- In perioral dermatitis, simplifying skin care and stopping steroid creams under medical supervision
- Daily sunscreen and gentle, fragrance-free care
