Keloids and scars
Injections for keloid and hypertrophic scars and correction of acne scars.
A keloid is a scar that grows beyond the borders of the original wound because too much collagen forms after healing. A hypertrophic scar is also thick and raised but stays within the wound’s borders. Both can itch, hurt and limit movement.
Treatment methods
- Corticosteroid injections into the scar: reduce thickness, firmness and itching
- Silicone gel or sheets: for both prevention and treatment
- Dermapen and laser procedures for depressed acne scars
- A combination of methods for severe keloids
Treatment is based on an individual assessment and carried out in stages: several sessions a few weeks apart may be needed. Keloids tend to come back, so they cannot be treated with surgical removal alone.
