Hyperhidrosis: excessive sweating

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating of the palms, feet, armpits or face even without heat or exertion. It can make daily life, work and social contact difficult. Sometimes it is a sign of another condition, so I first assess the cause. The opposite, reduced or absent sweating (anhidrosis), also needs an examination.
Treatment options
- Special aluminium chloride antiperspirants
- Botulinum toxin for underarm sweating: the effect lasts several months
- Suitable topical methods for sweaty palms and feet
- Oral treatment in severe cases, under medical supervision
Fungal and bacterial infections develop easily on sweaty skin; when they do, we treat them at the same time.
