Bacterial skin infections and parasites
Folliculitis, boils, carbuncles, hidradenitis, abscesses, scabies and lice.
Red, painful, pus-filled bumps on the skin are most often a bacterial infection: inflammation of a hair follicle (folliculitis), a deeper and more painful boil (furuncle), several boils merging (carbuncle), or recurring lumps in the armpits and groin (hidradenitis). Scabies and lice, on the other hand, are caused by parasites and come with itching.
Conditions I treat
- Folliculitis and staphylococcal pyoderma
- Boils, carbuncles and skin abscesses
- Hidradenitis: recurring painful lumps in the armpits and groin
- Rare infections such as actinomycosis, together with other specialists when needed
- Scabies and lice
What not to do
- Squeezing a boil: the infection spreads deeper and wider, which is especially dangerous on the face
- Taking antibiotics on your own
- Treating only yourself for scabies: close family members must be treated at the same time
- Considering treatment finished without washing bedding, towels and clothes
Come without delay if you have a fever, fast-spreading redness, a boil on the face or around the nose, or diabetes.
