Hair loss and trichology
Trichoscopy, identifying the type of alopecia, and PRP and laser as add-ons.
Losing a certain amount of hair every day is normal. If the hair is noticeably thinning, shedding continues for months or round bald patches appear, the cause needs to be investigated. My training in trichology in Saint Petersburg is the basis of my work in this area.
The most common types
- Androgenetic alopecia: gradual thinning with a genetic and hormonal cause
- Alopecia areata: round, smooth bald patches
- Diffuse shedding: after stress, illness, childbirth or dieting
- Scarring alopecia: forms in which the follicle is destroyed and hair does not regrow, for example after a neglected scalp fungal infection
- Dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis and other scalp conditions
- Hirsutism: finding the cause of excess hair growth in women
Diagnosis and treatment
- Trichoscopy: magnified examination of the hair and scalp
- Ordering the tests that are needed
- Topical and oral treatment matched to the cause
- In selected cases, PRP and Fotona laser stimulation as an add-on
In scarring alopecia time is especially important: stopping active inflammation quickly is the only way to protect the remaining follicles.
